Yesterday (19th of May) we’ve been attending the Adobe Developer Day in Bucharest. It took place at Intercontinental Hotel in various places because beside the general session there were other bootcamps taking place in the same time. Attendance was ok at least in the morning although more people could attend to the event. Interesting is that all seats were taken for each bootcamp which shows that the interest in practical work is big.

We have met Ben Forta which showed meaning of RIA concept, then Digby Horner told us how Adobe Romania was created. After this two we dived into more technical stuff on different technologies. This is what we noted:

• new FXG format based on MXML and will be supported by Photoshop, Illustrator and Fireworks
• new versions of Flash Player, Flash Lite and AIR in 2009
• iPhone market for Flash Player is still complex because of Apple who is keeping monopole on every application built for iPhone
• new video player and/or framework for making video players, named Strobe, will be released by Adobe
• new mobile packaging tool – Adobe Mobile Packager
• mobile devices represents more that half of all electronics in the world
• FMS 3.5 which is final have 2 versions: Interactive and Streaming

We’ve been to all Flex Camps in Bucharest and last year attended to Adobe MAX Milano and I can say that the majority of people that attended yesterday was new, excepting the Adobe Romania team. This is good and bad in the same time. You may guess why good and why bad.

Next Flex Camp Bucharest Romania will take place at Adobe’s Offices on 6th November 2008 and is called Flex Triangle Bucharest. New thing is that in the same time two other cities will have Flex Camps: Vienna and Hamburg (that is why is called triangle).

Five presentations are available and are:

Friday, 25th of July 2008, we had another Romanian Flex User Group meeting. We did meet in a pub, the atmosphere was relaxed. We spoke about Flex/AIR applications, future ones and released ones, and we also spoke about Fx{r} and how can we improve it.

1. First Flex Camp Romania in 2008
2. We’ve been at FlexCamp Bucharest Romania 2008

As we promised, we have been present to FlexCamp Bucharest Romania 2008 and there were about 90 people, more than half of them for the first time at FlexCamp. It was a great time and we discussed about new technologies like Adobe LiveCycle Data Services, BlazeDS, new flex frameworks like PureMVC and Caringorm, and the new features of Flex Builder 3.

Flexer team also had a presentation with a small and simple application: How to build a download application in Flex – that can be seen here.

There have been 3 presentations hold by 3 flex developers out of 6 (there were 6 presentations) and that was a new thing and we hope to see that next time also.

RoFUG (www.fxg.ro) also was there and is growing – we had contact with flex developers, exchanged ideas and meet new people.

Today was the first meeting of the RoFUG (Romanian Flex User Group). Among the attendees were: Andrei, Stelian and me from the Flexer side, Bogdan Dinu (the manager of the group – or the godfather ), Cristian Ivascu (you may know him from Adobe’s Flex Camp), Costin Aldea and Iulia. Some other persons were expected to be present but did not appear.

We discussed what will happen next, where and when the next meeting will take place. Basically we started our first baby steps towards being a big community.

One of the decisions taken was that every 3 months there will be elections for various positions inside the group. I am the proud owner of the co-manager role for the next 3 months.
