Yesterday, Adobe has released AIR 2.0 runtime and can be downloaded at get.adobe.com/air/.

The new things in AIR 2.0 are:

• New Webkit with additional HTML5 and CSS3 support
• Multitouch and gestures
• Enhanced drag-and-drop support
• Enhanced socket support
• Enhanced printer interaction
• DNS resolution
• Local microphone API
• Native document handlers to open document
• Native process APIs
• Native installer
• Socket servers and peer-to-peer networking
• TLS/SSL sockets
• UDP networking support
• Global error handler
• IPv6 network support

I named just a few changes but there are a lot more, so please read the release notes.

Yesterday Adobe did release Flash Player 10.1 Release Candidate 7.

This public prerelease is an opportunity for developers to test and provide early feedback to Adobe on new features, enhancements, and compatibility with previously authored content. Consumers can try the prerelease of Flash Player 10.1 to preview hardware acceleration of video on supported Windows PCs, x86-based netbooks, and Android 2.2 supported devices. You can also help make Flash Player better by visiting all of your favorite sites, making sure they work the same or better than with the current player. We definitely want your feedback to help improve the final version, expected to ship in the first half of 2010.

Adobe published a few numbers about Flash Player, numbers that we may already know:

• 98% of Internet connected PCs have Flash Player
• 85% of the top 100 websites use Flash Player (Alexa)
• 75% of web video is viewed using Flash Player (Comscore)
• 98% of enterprises rely on Flash Player (Forrester)
• 70% of web games are delivered using Flash Player (Evans Data Corp.)
• 3.5 million developers use the Flash Platform
• 19 of the top 20 device manufacturers worldwide have committed to shipping Flash technology on their devices

Couple of days ago Ryan Stewart, Evangelist for Adobe, presented the latest version of Flash Player on Android. The versions we are talking about are 10.1 for Flash Player and 2.2 for Android (Froyo). He shows up the http://ecodazoo.com/ a full 3D flash site, Google Finance (http://www.google.com/finance?q=adbe), How I met your mother from CBS, etc.

Kevin Lynch was speaking about the future of the Internet, Flash & HTML5 at Web 2.0 Expo and one of the many interesting things he said is this:

The technology issue, I think, Apple actually have with us is not that it doesn’t work, is that it does work.

The whole interview is great and I encourage you to watch it. And is not all about Apple .

Yesterday Steve Jobs posted an article on their website named Thoughts on flash where he expresses his motives for banning Adobe’s well known runtimes from any of their products. In response to Steve’s article, Kevin Lynch from Adobe, in his Moving forward article, stated that Adobe is moving forward concentrating on the Android platform. In the near future Adobe and Google will present (as a public preview) at Google I/O conference a new version of Android with Flash 10.1, and after that, more and more flash enabled devices will emerge. Kevin is not trying to dismantle Steve’s arguments because that was done a week ago by Mike Chambers article but only to let us know that Adobe’s future developments will not include iPad, iPhone and the new iPad.

On 15th of April 2010 we will have a Flex Camp, related to the recent launch of Flash Builder 4 which will take place at Adobe Systems Romania Offices (Anchor Plaza, Bdul. Timisoara, nr. 26Z, Bucharest). We will start around 5:30 PM and we will end somewhere before the last bus. There will be food and drinks on the house as usual .

Intelligent Software Solutions developed a touch table for the White House Situation Room.

The application is really a mash-up of technologies including the ISS-developed Web Enabled Temporal Analysis System framework for data access and aggregation combined with a custom touch interface developed by ISS, utilizing the Adobe® Flex® framework, finally sending results to Google™ Earth.

With this we can see that Flex Framework is getting more and more mature.

Today, Apple just announced the new iPad device. Great peace of work… and a better news is that the developers will be able to develop applications for iPad using the Flash Pro CS5. You may already know that we are able to develop applications for iPhone using Flash Pro CS5. Following that path, making applications for the new iPad using the tool above, looks like the natural way.

Although Adobe didn’t announced that Flash Builder 4 will be able to package iPhone apps it seems that it is possible – read this article from Ted Patrick blog.

I’m glad that Adobe is prepared for the new iPad. And although Apple do not want to add the Flash Player on their devices Adobe found a way making all Flash Platform developers, also, iPhone and iPad developers. You can read more here.
