The first day at MAX (yesterday, 01-12-2008)… Lots of people… about 1300! The biggest Adobe MAX in Europe until now.

We attended at the following sessions:

1. Opening General Session, the opening keynote
   • iPlayer by BBC (Anthony Rose)
   • Fiat Eco Drive (Rick Williams and Adam Creeger)
   • Herald Tribune Reader by New York Times (Ted Pattrick)
   • Adobe Wave
   • Tour de Flex
   • Cocomo and Switchboard (Andrew Shorten and Serge Jespers)
2. Introduction to Thermo and the Next Generation of Flex
   • Thermo now is called Flash Catalyst
   • FXG implemented in CS4 suite so Flash Catalyst documents can be saved directly form CS suite
   • In Flash Catalyst some features are similar to Flash
   • Network monitor in Gumbo
   • Getters and Setters generator
   • Conditional break points
   • Run to cursor
   • Move refactoring
   • Improved code hinting
3. Creating new components in Flex 3 and Beyond (Matt Chotin)
4. Using C++ libraries in Flash Player and Adobe AIR (Jim Corbett)
   • project is nambed Alchemy
   • complex functions can be implemented in C/C++ and called from Flex/AIR
   • the C/C++ will run in the same sandbox
   • useful for heavy processing but not for marshaling
5. Testing your Flex Application
6. Debugging and profiling with Flex Builder (Mike Jones)
   • LogWatcher, seing the log of the Flash Player
   • Profiler

The general impression is that all things are well organized, the speakers did a good job on each session. One thing that wasn’t ok all the time was the access to internet via wireless in some parts of the main hall.

We met with friends from Adobe Romania and we are looking forward to attend to theirs sessions.
